Cord Communities are about loving God and People TOGETHER. "We crave community, and yet struggle to define what we crave... Want to know where Cords are meeting?
Community is a word that gets used a lot. We sometimes use it to describe where we live or the group of people we spend time with. Yet, for many of us, it seems like it should be something more. Of all the places one could look to find true community, made up of real people, it makes the most sense that people should be able find it amongst the followers of Jesus. As followers of Jesus, we are not merely friends, or "brothers and sisters," we are part of the same body.
Cord communities are about learning how to be the body of Christ. We desire to have a deeper relationship with God, and to have more meaningful relationships with others. We want to better appreciate the greatness of God's love and realize what it means to really love others as representatives of Jesus (2 Cor 5:16-21). This means seeking God together, not just for our own benefit, but because He has created us for a purpose (Eph 2:10) and we believe He has has brought us to where we are for a reason. If you're interested in learning more, or in becoming part of a new or existing CORD community, either now, or in the future as you come to the University of Arkansas, please contact us here.
In the spring of 2010, a group of students traveled to the White Mountains in Arizona to serve and learn about the Apache people. They also learned some things about community. Some of them made this video to share what they learned: "For there to be healthy community, you've got to be serving and be on mission." -Mark Batterson2
Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. Colossians 3:12-17 (NLT)
